A hospital bed at home is usually about three things: getting the head and feet up without pillows and wedges, getting the whole bed to a height where transfers and care are safe, and giving a caregiver room to work without wrecking their back. Every bed we sell is full-electric — head, foot and height all move on the handset — because that is what actually solves those problems. We do not sell manual-crank beds.
Most of our beds come from care homes, clinics and families on Vancouver Island whose need has ended. Each one is stripped, checked over, cleaned and serviced before it is listed, and delivered assembled and working in your room, with the packaging taken away. If you want a mattress with it, we carry standard hospital foam and pressure-relief mattresses to match.

What to check when buying a used hospital bed
- Full-electric, not semi-electric. On a semi-electric bed the height is a hand crank at the foot end. It is the adjustment caregivers use most and the one that matters for safe transfers. Every bed we list is full-electric.
- Weight capacity. Standard home-care beds are typically rated to about 350 or 450 lb; bariatric frames go higher and are wider. The capacity is on the label, and we list it on every product page.
- Width. A standard hospital bed is 36" wide, the same as a twin. A 42" or 48" frame changes what mattress and what bedding fits, and needs a wider doorway on the way in.
- Height range. The useful numbers are the lowest deck height (for getting in and out) and the highest (for care). A low bed that drops to around 7–9" from the floor is a different product from one with a 15" minimum.
- Rails. Half rails, full rails or none. Rails are a fall-risk and entrapment question, not just an accessory; if someone is confused or restless, talk to their care team before choosing.
- Motors and handset. Listen for straining or a grind under load, and check every function on the handset. This is the single most common thing that goes wrong on a used bed and the main thing we service.
- Mattress compatibility. Most frames take a standard 36" x 80" hospital mattress. Some name-brand adjustable beds use proprietary sizes — worth confirming before assuming your old mattress will fit.
What we check before listing a hospital bed
- Every motor is run through its full travel under load, and the handset and cabling are checked and replaced if worn.
- The frame, deck sections, castors and brakes are checked for cracks, bent members and play.
- Rails, if fitted, are checked for latching and for the gaps that matter for entrapment.
- The bed is professionally cleaned and disinfected, including the deck under the mattress.
- The weight rating and any specific limits are recorded and shown on the listing.
- It is delivered assembled, plugged in and tested in your room. We do not leave a bed in boxes.
Which bed size and type
Standard (36" wide) suits most people and most bedrooms, and takes any standard hospital mattress. Full (42–48" wide) is the choice when someone is used to a bigger bed, needs to reposition a lot, or is above the standard weight rating. A low bed that drops close to the floor is for anyone at risk of rolling out, and is often used with a floor mat instead of rails.
If you are replacing a bed a clinician recommended, bring their notes — width, height range, rails and mattress type are usually spelled out and we will match them. If nobody has assessed the situation yet, tell us about the person and the room and we will suggest something sensible.

How much does a used hospital bed cost in Victoria, BC?
Our used full-electric hospital beds are generally priced between about $900 and $2,000 depending on the make, model and features, with the exact price on each listing. A comparable new full-electric home-care bed usually retails well above that once a mattress and delivery are added. Delivery and setup in Greater Victoria is $150; other areas are listed on this page.
Is a used hospital bed safe?
A used bed that has been properly checked is as safe as its condition, which is exactly why we inspect and service every one before listing it: motors under load, handset, frame, castors, brakes and rails. What we cannot do is assess the person — if there is any question about rails, bed height or entrapment risk, ask their occupational therapist or care team, and we will match the bed to their advice.
Do you deliver and set up hospital beds?
Yes. Every bed is delivered assembled, plugged in and tested in the room it will be used in, and we take the packaging away. Delivery and setup is $150 in Greater Victoria, $150 in the Cowichan Valley, $200 in Nanaimo, Parksville and Ladysmith, $300 in the Comox Valley, $350 in Campbell River, and $300 to $400 in the Lower Mainland. It is one charge per order, not per item.
Does the bed come with a mattress?
Listings say whether a mattress is included. Where it is not, we carry standard hospital foam mattresses and pressure-relief mattresses that fit, and you can add one to the same delivery. A mattress on the same trip does not increase the delivery charge.
Will a hospital bed fit through my door?
A standard 36" bed frame is delivered in sections and assembled in the room, so a normal interior door is fine. Wider bariatric frames and some one-piece decks need more room to manoeuvre; tell us about tight hallways or stairs when you order and we will plan for it.
Can I return a hospital bed if it does not suit?
No. Because this is home medical equipment, all sales are final and we do not take returns or exchanges. If a bed arrives damaged or defective, contact us within 48 hours of delivery and we will work through it with you. That is why we are happy to answer every question up front, and why we suggest involving whoever is assessing the person before you buy.
