Equipment we don't buy
We're a one-person operation with limited space, so we buy a short list of equipment we know we can service, store and re-home. Everything else is a no — not a judgement on the item, just what we can handle.

Why not power mobility?
Power wheelchairs and scooters carry batteries, controllers and drive electronics that need specialist testing before anyone should sit in them. Battery condition in particular is impossible to judge from a photo and expensive to get wrong. We aren't set up to service power mobility, so we don't take it in — no matter how good the price or how new the chair is.
What else you can do with it
If we can't take your item, it usually still has life in it. A few things that tend to work:
- Local medical equipment loan programs. Many communities on the Island run a loan cupboard or equipment bank that accepts donations of working equipment.
- Disability and seniors' organizations. Groups that support people with mobility needs often know exactly who is waiting for the thing you have.
- Your OT or the discharge planner at the hospital. If the equipment came through a therapist, they'll usually know the local route for passing it on.
- Selling it privately. Power mobility in particular tends to find a buyer directly, since the buyer can arrange their own inspection.
- Battery recycling. If a power chair or scooter is genuinely at the end of its life, its batteries need proper disposal rather than the curb.
We can't recommend specific organizations here — we'd rather not send you somewhere that has since changed its intake rules. Your local health authority or community centre will have a current list.
